Playing with Patterns
Mixing patterns is one of this season's biggest trends but it's also one of the most daunting. Mixing patterns can seem pretty difficult if you're trying it for the first time but it can actually be really easy to pull off. And when done right, it's a real show stopper! One of the easiest ways to mix patterns is by pairing a bold bottom with a simple top like shown. Following the style shown in the picture above, I wanted to mix a bold colored floral pant with a neutral stripe top. The key with such a bold pant is to not go crazy with the color of your top. I wanted to keep the look preppy so I added pearl accents and a cute pair of pastel oxfords that stayed within the color story of the outfit without taking away from it as a whole.
Another great and easy way to mix patterns is by matching the darkest color of one item to the lightest of another. I'll post a picture soon demonstrating exactly how to achieve a perfectly patterned look. In the meantime, start mixing it up! Let us know how your pattern filled outfit turned out in the comments.
